ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has issued a strong warning directed at the United Arab Emirates’ President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, amid rising regional tensions linked to Yemen and Somalia, according to political sources and regional media reports.
The reports said Erdoğan accused the UAE leader of “playing with fire” through what Ankara views as destabilizing policies in parts of the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. The Turkish president was quoted as saying that Turkey had exercised restraint for a long time, but that recent developments had crossed what he described as a “red line.”
According to the reports, Erdoğan expressed particular concern over the UAE’s role and influence in Yemen and Somalia, warning that continued actions perceived as interference could have serious consequences for regional stability.
Turkish officials have not released a detailed public statement outlining the remarks, while Emirati authorities have so far declined to comment. Analysts say the rhetoric reflects growing rivalry between Ankara and Abu Dhabi over geopolitical influence, military presence, and political alliances in conflict-affected regions.
Relations between Turkey and the UAE have fluctuated in recent years, marked by periods of sharp disagreement followed by diplomatic normalization efforts. Observers note that the latest statements, if confirmed, could signal renewed strain between the two regional powers.
