NEW YORK — Sumoud Alliance chief Abdallah Hamdok said he paid his own expenses during his stay in New York after disagreements emerged over accommodation and transportation arrangements for members of the Sudanese delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly.
Hamdok said he covered his personal costs after members of the delegation raised concerns about what they described as unequal treatment in accommodation arrangements.
The dispute reportedly began after several Sudanese delegates objected to being placed in lower-rated hotels while attending the UN General Assembly. Some members also raised concerns about the lack of private transportation during their stay in the United States.
The disagreement has drawn attention to the logistical arrangements for Sudanese representatives attending high-level UN meetings in New York, where delegations from around the world have gathered for diplomatic discussions.
Hamdok’s decision to cover his own expenses came amid demands from some delegation members for equal treatment in accommodation and transportation arrangements.
The issue comes as Sudanese political figures and representatives participate in diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the General Assembly, where Sudan’s ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis remain among the issues receiving international attention.
