TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that negotiations on a potential final agreement will not begin if threats against Iran continue, signaling Tehran’s insistence on a more favorable diplomatic environment before any future talks.
In a post on X, Araghchi said Iran remains committed to diplomacy but warned that pressure and threats would prevent progress toward a negotiated settlement.
“Negotiations on a final deal will not commence” if threats continue, Araghchi said, without providing further details on the specific measures or statements he was referring to.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Western countries over Tehran’s nuclear program, regional security issues, and previous diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching an agreement.
Iran has repeatedly said that meaningful negotiations require mutual respect, guarantees, and the removal of what it considers coercive measures, while Western governments have called for limits on Iran’s nuclear activities and greater transparency.
The latest statement highlights the continued challenges facing diplomatic efforts as international actors seek to address disagreements over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and broader regional role.
No immediate response was reported from Western governments regarding Araghchi’s comments.
