DOHA — Qatar has accused Iran of targeting a Qatari tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the incident as an “aggression” against the security and safety of international navigation.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry said the targeting of the tanker Al Rekayyat while it was transiting near the strategic waterway was unacceptable and posed a threat to maritime security.
Qatar called on Iran to immediately cease any actions that undermine regional stability or endanger international shipping routes.
The spokesperson said Doha holds Iran fully responsible for the incident, as well as for any resulting damages or consequences.
Iran had not immediately commented on the allegations.
