NAIROBI — The Kenyan government has extradited Afghan national Abdul Zahir Qadeer to the United States, where he faces allegations related to drug trafficking and weapons offences.

Qadeer was arrested in Nairobi in April 2025 following a warrant issued by a US court and an INTERPOL notice. After the completion of legal proceedings in Kenya, he was deported to the United States on July 9, 2026.

Kenyan authorities said the extradition reflects the close security cooperation between Kenya and the United States in combating transnational organized crime.

Officials added that the move demonstrates Kenya’s commitment to working with international partners to address cross-border criminal networks and ensure that individuals accused of serious offences face justice through the appropriate legal channels.
