KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed following the ruling party’s sweeping victory in Ethiopia’s 7th general elections.

According to official results, the Prosperity Party secured 438 out of 486 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, giving it a dominant parliamentary majority.
Anwar said the outcome reflected the political direction chosen by Ethiopian voters and extended his best wishes to Abiy Ahmed’s government for continued stability and development.
The victory further consolidates Abiy Ahmed’s leadership, as the Prosperity Party maintains firm control over Ethiopia’s federal parliament following years of political restructuring and national reforms.
Ethiopia’s elections have taken place amid ongoing security challenges in several regions, including conflict-affected areas and political tensions with opposition groups.
While the government has presented the vote as a step toward institutional stability, opposition figures and critics have in the past raised concerns about political space and fairness in the electoral process.
No major incidents were reported during the announcement of the final results.
The Malaysian leader’s message adds to a series of international reactions recognizing Ethiopia’s electoral outcome and reaffirming diplomatic ties between the two countries.
