WINDHOEK – Namibia has officially ended visa-free entry for citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, and more than 30 other countries, requiring affected travelers to obtain visas prior to arrival.
Authorities said the decision is based on the principle of reciprocity, arguing that many of the affected countries do not offer similar visa-free access to Namibian passport holders.
The move marks a significant shift in Namibia’s immigration policy and is expected to impact travelers, business visitors, and tourism flows from several major Western nations.
Officials have not yet provided full details on implementation timelines or visa application procedures, but said the policy aims to ensure “fair and balanced” travel arrangements between Namibia and partner countries.
The decision comes as several African states reassess visa policies in response to global travel restrictions and unequal mobility agreements, with an increasing focus on reciprocal arrangements.
