MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somalia’s House of the People has delayed the opening of its 7th parliamentary session, which was scheduled for tomorrow, following a request from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Parliamentary sources confirmed that the president sought the postponement as he prepares for an overseas trip. The session is now expected to convene after his return.
The 6th session of parliament was officially closed on June 22, with the 7th session initially slated to open on August 22. However, that date passed without action, raising questions about the government’s legislative calendar.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the delay is also tied to mounting political tensions within the government, particularly amid growing pressure on Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. In recent weeks, lawmakers from both houses of parliament have rallied behind a motion of no confidence against the prime minister, fueling concerns of political instability.
The postponement is seen by analysts as a move to ease tensions and allow political negotiations to take place before parliament reconvenes.
