MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali police have arrested a key suspect linked to a series of armed robberies and a shooting that triggered public outrage in Garasbaaley district, south of Mogadishu, security officials confirmed Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Hassan Nur Abdi, was captured during a planned operation led by Garasbaaley police following weeks of complaints from residents about violent crimes reportedly carried out by individuals disguised in government uniforms.
According to police sources, Ibrahim allegedly shot a civilian during a robbery several months ago, leaving the victim seriously injured. The incident sparked widespread fear and anger in the community, prompting authorities to launch a targeted investigation.
“After extensive efforts, our officers successfully captured the suspect believed to be behind this heinous act,” a senior police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “He will now face justice in accordance with the laws of the country.”
The Somali Police Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding civilians and maintaining public order, vowing to sustain regular operations aimed at curbing crime in Mogadishu and beyond.
“We will not tolerate any acts of banditry or threats to public safety. Our forces remain vigilant and will take swift action against anyone involved in criminal activities,” the police said in a statement.
Authorities also called on the public to work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to help ensure the safety of communities.
