Political Allegations Against Cirro Trigger Debate Within Somaliland Opposition Circles

HARGEISA, Somaliland — A political statement attributed to Sucaad Carmiye Odowaa, a member of the Kaah Party opposition, has sparked renewed discussion among Somaliland communities after she alleged that some members of the Sheikh Isaaq clans and opposition supporters had come to recognize what she described as a political “plot” allegedly connected to Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Cirro.”

In her statement, Carmiye said she had previously raised concerns about Cirro’s political activities, referring to events in August 2011 and making allegations about his past political connections. However, the claims have not been independently verified, and no publicly available evidence has been provided to substantiate the accusations.

Carmiye said that “the truth will become clear in the future,” adding that she intends to continue raising the issue as part of what she described as a broader political discussion.

The remarks come amid continued political debate in Somaliland, where rival parties and political figures frequently exchange criticism over leadership, governance, political alliances and the future direction of the territory.

Cirro, a veteran Somaliland politician and former opposition leader, remains one of the most prominent figures in the region’s political landscape. Over the years, he has built significant support among opposition groups, while also facing criticism from political opponents over his decisions, alliances and political strategy.

Political observers say the latest controversy reflects the wider competition within Somaliland’s political environment, particularly during periods of leadership transition, party realignment and public debate over governance.

The allegations remain part of an ongoing political dispute, and no independent confirmation has been provided regarding the claims made in the statement. A response from Cirro or his political representatives would provide additional perspective on the matter.
