MOSCOW — Russia has called for an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon, urging restraint amid escalating cross-border tensions and growing concerns over civilian casualties.
In a statement, Moscow said the attacks must stop and stressed the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, warning that continued escalation risks further destabilising the region. The remarks come as international pressure mounts for de-escalation in the conflict zone.
Russia said the situation in Lebanon should be addressed through diplomatic channels, calling for an immediate reduction in violence and renewed efforts toward a ceasefire.
The comments were directed at ongoing Israeli military actions, which have intensified in recent weeks amid broader regional tensions. Civilian infrastructure and residential areas in southern Lebanon have reportedly been affected, raising concerns among humanitarian agencies and international observers.
Israel has said its operations are aimed at securing its northern border and responding to security threats, while insisting it takes measures to minimise civilian harm. However, strikes and retaliatory fire have continued to fuel fears of a wider confrontation.
Russia’s statement adds to a growing number of international appeals for restraint, though efforts to secure a durable ceasefire have so far struggled to gain traction.
The situation remains fragile, with diplomats warning that continued escalation could further widen instability across the region.
