MOGADISHU — Former Petroleum Minister and Member of Parliament Abdirizak Omar Mohamed is expected to travel to Beledweyne on Monday after spending several days in Mogadishu, according to reports.
Mohamed has reportedly been in the capital for medical reasons, while separate reports indicate that his stay may also have involved political consultations.
Sources familiar with the matter said Mohamed held a private meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday night. The reported meeting has not been officially confirmed by the presidency or Mohamed’s office.
According to the reports, the discussions focused on Somalia’s current political situation, including disagreements involving Hirshabelle State and the wider central regions. The talks were also reportedly aimed at exploring possible ways to ease tensions and reach a political understanding.
Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region, remains an important political center in Hirshabelle, where tensions between federal and regional political actors have continued.
Mohamed’s expected return to Beledweyne comes amid ongoing political discussions, although it remains unclear whether his planned visit is directly connected to the reported meeting with the president.
