ADDIS ABABA — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Addis Ababa on Sunday for talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, marking his fourth visit to Ethiopia in six months as the neighbouring countries continue efforts to consolidate recently improved relations.

According to the Somali presidency, Hassan Sheikh and his delegation were received at Bole International Airport before proceeding to meetings with senior Ethiopian officials ahead of planned bilateral talks.

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation in key areas including security, trade, infrastructure development and political coordination, according to officials familiar with the agenda.

Both sides are also expected to review implementation of previous understandings reached during recent high-level exchanges, as part of broader efforts to stabilise relations after a period of diplomatic tension.

The Somali presidency said the leaders would further exchange views on regional developments in the Horn of Africa, with emphasis on counterterrorism cooperation, border security, and efforts to support peace and stability in the region.

The visit comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa following months of shuttle diplomacy and reciprocal visits by senior officials from both countries.

In March, Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti held a trilateral summit in Djibouti, where leaders discussed regional security cooperation, economic integration, and coordinated responses to shared challenges in the Horn of Africa.

The repeated high-level meetings between Hassan Sheikh and Abiy reflect a renewed push by both governments to normalise relations and deepen strategic cooperation in a region facing complex security and economic pressures.
