MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of four members to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) during its weekly meeting in Mogadishu.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, with the Cabinet endorsing the appointment of two senior lawyers and two legal experts to serve on the commission for a five-year term.
The newly approved members are Mohamed-deeq Moallim Aden, Maryan Sheikh Osman, Abdirisaq Mohamed Ismail and Abdiqadir Ali Moallim.
The appointments were proposed by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in line with Article 145 of Somalia’s 2026 Constitution.
The four members are the only appointed representatives of the commission, while other members will serve based on their official positions, including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, the Attorney General, heads of federal member state high courts, the Banadir Regional Administration court chairperson and the head of the Independent Human Rights Commission.
The Judicial Service Commission is an independent institution responsible for overseeing judicial reform, administration and supervision. It is tasked with strengthening accountability, ensuring fair trials and protecting the judiciary from external interference.
