MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), has officially launched a new program aimed at strengthening border security and safety systems at the country’s airports.
The initiative focuses on improving the capacity of border security institutions through staff training, modernization of border management systems, enhanced airport security measures and increased cooperation between the Somali government and international partners.
Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail said securing borders and airports is a key pillar of national security and plays an important role in combating cross-border threats.
He emphasized that the Federal Government of Somalia is prioritizing the development of professional security institutions equipped with the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed to address the country’s security challenges.
The minister added that the program will contribute to improving security personnel training, strengthening border management, facilitating lawful travel and enhancing coordination among security agencies in line with international standards.
Officials from Somali security institutions and representatives of international partners attended the launch ceremony, expressing their support for efforts to improve border and airport security across Somalia.
