Somalia, Jordan Strengthen Military Cooperation Against Terrorism

AMMAN – Somalia’s Federal Government Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiq, who is currently on an official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, held a high-level meeting with Jordanian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Youssef Al-Haniti, to discuss strengthening military cooperation and expanding security ties between the two countries.

The discussions centered on regional security developments, shared security challenges, and opportunities to enhance cooperation between the Somali and Jordanian armed forces. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close military coordination to improve defense capabilities, strengthen institutional capacity, and contribute to regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, the Jordanian military leadership presented an overview of the capabilities and experience of the Jordanian Armed Forces, highlighting potential areas of cooperation with Somalia, particularly in the fields of military training, counter-terrorism operations, professional development, and the exchange of defense expertise.

Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiq expressed Somalia’s gratitude for Jordan’s continued support and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of the longstanding relationship between the two nations. He also briefed the Jordanian side on the current security situation in the Horn of Africa, the ongoing threat posed by terrorist organizations, and the progress made by the Somali National Army in recent operations aimed at restoring stability and strengthening national security.

The meeting was attended by Somalia’s Ambassador to Jordan, Abiy Mosa Farah, as well as senior military officials and officers from both countries’ armed forces.

The visit reflects the growing security partnership between Somalia and Jordan, with both nations seeking to deepen cooperation in areas that support counter-terrorism efforts, military modernization, and regional security.
