MOGADISHU — Somalia has taken a significant step toward developing its petroleum sector following the arrival of the Cagri Bey drilling vessel, a move officials describe as a turning point in the country’s economic future.
In an exclusive interview with media, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire Mohamed, said the vessel’s arrival signals a shift from planning to the actual implementation of Somalia’s efforts to harness its natural resources.
“This is a major milestone for Somalia,” the minister said. “It demonstrates that we are ready to responsibly develop our petroleum resources and unlock the country’s natural wealth.”
The high-profile event was attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, underscoring strong political backing for the initiative. According to the minister, their presence reflects national unity and commitment at the highest levels of government.
