MOGADISHU — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday received U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, where the two sides discussed strengthening the strategic partnership between Somalia and the United States, with a focus on security, counterterrorism, trade, and investment.
According to the Somali Presidency, the meeting reviewed ongoing cooperation between the two countries and explored ways to expand collaboration in promoting peace and stability, supporting Somalia’s state-building efforts, and creating opportunities for economic growth through increased trade and private-sector investment.
President Hassan Sheikh expressed gratitude to the U.S. government and the American people for their continued support to Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, humanitarian assistance, and institutional development. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United States and working closely with international partners to build a stable and secure environment that attracts investment and accelerates national development.
The president emphasized that sustained international cooperation remains essential to Somalia’s efforts to defeat terrorism, strengthen state institutions, and advance economic recovery.
Congressman LaHood commended the progress Somalia has made in rebuilding government institutions, improving stability, and intensifying operations against terrorist groups. He reaffirmed his support for deepening the longstanding relationship between the United States and Somalia and underscored the importance of continued cooperation in promoting regional security, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
The meeting reflects ongoing engagement between Mogadishu and Washington as the two countries seek to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation on shared security and economic priorities.
