Trump Welcomes Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan Defence Pact

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed the newly signed defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, describing it as an important step toward strengthening cooperation and collective security among the three countries.

Trump said he was pleased that the three countries had signed the agreement and congratulated their leaders, describing the move as a significant development in regional security.

He said the agreement demonstrates the willingness of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to cooperate on security and to support one another in the event of an attack.

Trump also described the agreement as a “big, bold and important first step”, saying he believed it could contribute to greater regional stability.

The agreement was signed in Mecca as regional security concerns continue to grow. It establishes a framework for closer defence cooperation and provides for the three countries to coordinate their response if one of them faces an armed attack.

The pact brings together three countries with significant military capabilities. Türkiye is a NATO member, Pakistan possesses nuclear weapons, while Saudi Arabia is a major military and economic power in the Middle East.

The agreement is expected to encourage greater military coordination, including strategic consultations, joint exercises and cooperation in defence technology and military industries.

The three governments have described the agreement as defensive and have not publicly identified a particular country as a target.

The deal comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East and wider concerns over regional security. Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan have increasingly sought to strengthen coordination as conflicts and geopolitical tensions continue to affect the region.

Türkiye has also indicated that the defence framework could eventually be expanded to include other countries. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said Egypt could potentially join the arrangement.

Egypt has so far taken a cautious position, saying it needs to examine the legal and constitutional implications before making a decision.

Trump’s positive reaction gives the agreement additional international attention and signals that Washington is closely watching the development of new regional security arrangements.

The long-term significance of the pact will depend on how effectively the three countries implement its provisions and whether they develop practical mechanisms for military coordination and collective response.

The agreement nevertheless represents a significant step in defence cooperation between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, and could influence the wider security architecture of the Middle East and surrounding regions.
