ANKARA — Turkey has signed new agreements for the production and delivery of advanced air defense systems as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its national air defense capabilities.
The new contracts cover the Hisar-A+ and Hisar-O+ air defense systems, which are jointly developed by Turkish defense companies Aselsan and Roketsan. Aselsan announced that the total value of the agreements is approximately 1.47 billion euros, marking one of the largest recent investments in Turkey’s domestic air defense programs.
The Hisar family of systems is designed to protect military units, strategic facilities, and critical infrastructure against a range of aerial threats, including aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The Hisar-A+ system is a short-range air defense platform capable of engaging targets at distances of up to around 15 kilometers, while the Hisar-O+ provides a longer-range capability, reaching targets up to approximately 25 kilometers away.
Developed through cooperation between Turkey’s defense industry companies, the systems are intended to reduce reliance on foreign air defense technology and strengthen the country’s ability to respond quickly to modern aerial threats.
Turkish officials have described the Hisar program as a key component of the country’s broader multi-layered air defense strategy, which aims to combine short-, medium-, and long-range systems into an integrated national shield.
The contracts are part of Turkey’s continued push to expand its domestic defense production, improve military independence, and increase the capabilities of its armed forces. Turkish defense companies have in recent years increased investments in missile technology, drones, electronic warfare, and advanced military systems.
The Hisar systems are expected to play a central role in Turkey’s future air defense network by providing mobile and flexible protection against evolving threats in the region.
