ANKARA — Turkish security forces have detained more than 200 people in large-scale operations across the capital ahead of next month’s NATO summit, officials said, as authorities step up counter-terrorism operations in preparation for the high-profile event.
The coordinated raids were carried out in multiple districts of Ankara, targeting individuals suspected of links to extremist networks, including the Islamic State group.
Security officials said the suspects were believed to have maintained contacts with militant cells, though they stressed that investigations are ongoing and legal proceedings have yet to determine formal charges.
The operation comes as Türkiye intensifies security arrangements ahead of the NATO summit, which is expected to bring together leaders from across the alliance, including NATO, amid heightened global security concerns.
Authorities said additional operations could be conducted in the coming days as part of broader efforts to prevent any potential security threats during the summit period.
Officials have not yet released details on the identities of those detained or the specific evidence gathered during the raids.
