DJIBOUTI — Sweden and Djibouti on Friday moved to strengthen diplomatic relations as Sweden’s ambassador to Ethiopia, also accredited to Djibouti, presented his credentials to President Ismail Omar Guelleh, officials said.

Ambassador Magnus Lennartsson formally presented his Letters of Credence during an official ceremony in Djibouti City, marking the start of his accreditation to the Horn of Africa nation.
During the visit, the envoy also held talks with Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, focusing on expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Discussions reportedly covered regional security in the Horn of Africa, maritime safety along key Red Sea shipping routes, humanitarian cooperation, sustainable development, and climate resilience.
Sweden’s embassy in Ethiopia is also responsible for diplomatic relations with Djibouti under a non-resident accreditation arrangement.
Both sides expressed appreciation for their growing partnership and reaffirmed commitment to continued engagement, according to officials.
Djibouti, strategically located at the entrance to the Red Sea, hosts several foreign military bases and plays a key role in regional and maritime security.
