WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has given Iran a 60-day deadline to reach an agreement with Washington, warning of consequences if no deal is reached within the timeframe.
“In 60 days we have to make a deal, otherwise we will do things that won’t make them happy,” Trump said in remarks during a speech, while adding that he does not expect the situation to escalate to that point.
The comments add new pressure to already strained U.S.-Iran relations, which remain shaped by disputes over Iran’s nuclear program, regional security concerns, and broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Trump did not specify what measures could follow if negotiations fail but suggested that alternative actions remain under consideration.
The announcement comes amid renewed diplomatic maneuvering involving Western and regional powers seeking to prevent further escalation in the region.
Analysts say the statement signals a firm U.S. negotiating stance, while still leaving room for a potential diplomatic breakthrough before the deadline expires.
