MOGADISHU — Zamzam University of Science and Technology (ZUST) and the Somali National Association of the Deaf (SONAD) have held talks aimed at strengthening cooperation on inclusive education and expanding opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in Somalia.
The meeting focused on developing a collaborative framework to promote accessible learning, sign language training, research, and initiatives designed to improve educational access and social inclusion for people with hearing impairments.
Representatives from both institutions discussed ways to enhance institutional cooperation through joint academic programs, capacity-building initiatives, and community outreach activities that support equal access to quality education.
The proposed partnership also seeks to encourage research on disability inclusion, promote awareness of the rights of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, and expand opportunities for skills development, higher education, and empowerment.
Officials said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing inclusive education and ensuring that students with disabilities have greater access to academic resources and opportunities to participate fully in society.
The initiative is expected to contribute to broader national efforts to promote educational equity, accessibility, and inclusion while strengthening support services for Somalia’s deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
