Iran Agrees to Restore UN Nuclear Inspections, US Says

0

WASHINGTON — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Iran has agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to return to the country following nuclear talks held in Switzerland.

The inspectors had been barred from accessing Iranian nuclear sites since the 2025 conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Vance said the agreement forms part of a broader diplomatic framework that also includes discussions on sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets, and regional security arrangements. He said technical talks between U.S. and Iranian officials would continue in the coming weeks.

The return of IAEA inspectors is being viewed as a key confidence-building measure that would restore international monitoring of Iran’s nuclear programme after a prolonged suspension.

However, officials on both sides cautioned that no final comprehensive agreement has yet been reached.

Washington described Iran’s acceptance of renewed inspections as one of the most significant outcomes of the latest round of negotiations.
