NAIROBI — Kenya’s President William Ruto hosted Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at his farm in Narok County during an official visit that highlighted the growing diplomatic and economic cooperation between Kenya and Somalia.

The visit took place in Narok County, a major agricultural and livestock-producing region, where the two leaders toured farming operations and engaged in informal discussions focused on agricultural development and rural investment opportunities.

The farm visit provided a symbolic setting for strengthening bilateral relations, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, trade, regional security, and economic development. They were seen discussing ways to improve food production systems, modernize agricultural practices, and enhance cross-border trade that could benefit communities in both countries.

According to officials accompanying the delegation, the engagement formed part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen ties between Nairobi and Mogadishu following a series of high-level exchanges in recent years. Both governments have increasingly focused on rebuilding trust and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly within the Horn of Africa region.

Security coordination against extremist groups, regional economic integration, and climate resilience were also among the broader topics linked to the discussions, reflecting shared challenges facing both nations.

Agriculture featured prominently in the visit, with attention given to potential investment opportunities and technology transfer that could support food security initiatives in Somalia while also contributing to Kenya’s agricultural growth.

Observers note that the informal nature of the farm tour underscored the personal dimension of diplomacy, complementing formal state-level engagements and signaling continued efforts to strengthen relations between the two neighboring countries.

The visit is widely seen as another step toward consolidating improved Kenya–Somalia relations and expanding cooperation in trade, security, and regional development.
