ÉVIAN-LES-BAINS — Kenya and Germany have reaffirmed their strong diplomatic and economic partnership, pledging to deepen cooperation across key sectors including trade, investment, renewable energy, agriculture, digital transformation and job creation.

Kenyan President William Ruto held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, where the two leaders discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation and address shared global and regional challenges.

President Ruto said Kenya and Germany enjoy a longstanding relationship founded on mutual respect, shared interests and a common commitment to sustainable development and economic growth.
The discussions focused on strengthening trade and investment ties, with both countries seeking to increase opportunities for businesses, investors and entrepreneurs. Particular attention was given to renewable energy projects, climate action initiatives and support for Kenya’s transition to a green economy.
The two leaders also reviewed ongoing cooperation in agriculture, a sector viewed as critical to food security, employment and economic development. They emphasized the importance of innovation, technology transfer and sustainable farming practices to improve productivity and resilience.
Digital transformation and support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) featured prominently in the talks, with both sides recognizing the role of technology and entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities for young people.
President Ruto welcomed the continued implementation of the Kenya-Germany bilateral labour agreement, which has expanded access to employment opportunities for qualified Kenyan professionals in Germany. The agreement is expected to further strengthen labour mobility, skills development and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
The meeting also highlighted the growing role of Kenya and Germany as partners in promoting regional stability, economic cooperation and sustainable development in Africa and Europe.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to grow, delivering tangible benefits to the people of both nations while contributing to broader international efforts to address global economic and environmental challenges.
