ANKARA — Somalia’s Ambassador Ambassador Fathudin Ali Mohamed Ospite has held talks with Maria Olson, Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Ankara, in a meeting focused on bilateral relations and regional security cooperation, according to the Somali mission.
The discussions, described as “constructive,” covered Somalia–US relations, Somalia–Türkiye cooperation and broader security dynamics in the Horn of Africa, a statement said.
Both sides reportedly exchanged views on ongoing collaboration in areas including counterterrorism, diplomatic coordination and institutional support for Somalia’s state-building efforts.
The meeting comes as Somalia continues to strengthen its foreign partnerships with key international allies, including the United States, which remains a major contributor to security assistance and development support in the country.
Türkiye also maintains a strong diplomatic and military training presence in Somalia, and has expanded cooperation with Mogadishu in recent years across infrastructure, education and defence sectors.
No new agreements were announced following the Ankara meeting, which was framed as part of routine consultations between diplomatic missions.
Officials did not immediately provide further details on specific policy outcomes, but said both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement.
Further updates are expected as diplomatic contacts between Somalia and its partners continue.
