MOGADISHU — Somalia and Türkiye have agreed to strengthen cooperation in religious affairs after the Somali Council of Ministers approved a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding collaboration between the two countries in the religious sector.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Somalia’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and Türkiye’s Directorate General of Religious Affairs, allowing the two institutions to work together on issues related to religious affairs, according to Somali government officials.
The memorandum is expected to promote exchanges of expertise, cooperation in religious education, capacity building, and coordination on matters related to Islamic affairs and community development.
Officials said the agreement reflects the close and longstanding relationship between Somalia and Türkiye, which has expanded in recent years across multiple areas, including security, humanitarian assistance, education, infrastructure, and economic development.
Through the new partnership, the two sides aim to enhance institutional cooperation, share experiences in managing religious services, and strengthen connections between religious institutions in both countries.
Türkiye has been a key partner for Somalia, supporting various development and stabilization initiatives, while Somalia continues to deepen its strategic relations with Ankara across different sectors.
