WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticised Israel over its military operations in Lebanon, saying he is disappointed with its handling of the conflict against Hezbollah and suggesting that alternative regional actors could play a greater role.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump said Israel’s current approach to the fighting in Lebanon was ineffective and destructive.
“I am disappointed in Israel. They cannot achieve anything in Lebanon without destroying buildings,” he said.
His remarks appeared to question Israel’s military strategy in its ongoing confrontation with Hezbollah, which has seen cross-border clashes and escalating tensions in recent months.
Trump went further, suggesting a shift in regional responsibility for dealing with Hezbollah.
“I am almost at the point of letting Syria handle Hezbollah, and giving more power to the Syrian president, Ahmed al-Sharaa,” he said.
The comments are likely to draw strong reactions given the sensitivity of the Lebanon–Israel conflict and Syria’s complex regional role.
Trump’s statement comes amid broader regional volatility, with fighting involving Hezbollah, continued Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, and ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider escalation.
There has been no immediate response from Israeli or Syrian officials regarding Trump’s remarks.
