ANKARA / WASHINGTON — Turkish authorities have extradited Ibrahim Khalduum Hilmi to the United States, where he has been handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in connection with a major healthcare fraud investigation, according to Turkish media reports.

The suspect is accused of involvement in a large-scale scheme targeting the U.S. Medicare program, which provides government-funded healthcare support to eligible patients and medical institutions.
Reports published by Turkiye Today indicate that investigators allege Hilmi played a central role in the alleged misappropriation of approximately $3.7 billion in Medicare funds. Authorities say the diverted funds did not reach intended healthcare providers, raising concerns over systemic financial abuse within the program.
Officials familiar with the case describe it as one of the most significant healthcare fraud investigations in recent years, involving complex financial transactions and alleged exploitation of federal healthcare systems.
According to the reports, Hilmi had fled the United States while under active investigation before being located in Turkey. He was later detained and extradited following coordination between Turkish law enforcement agencies and U.S. authorities.
The FBI has not yet released a detailed public statement on the extradition, but legal proceedings are expected to continue in the U.S. federal court system as the investigation progresses.
