US Confident of New Agreements Transforming Middle East

WASHINGTON — The United States ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, on Sunday said he is “fully confident” that new agreements will emerge that could bring significant change to the Middle East.

Speaking in an interview with CBS, Waltz pointed to growing military cooperation between Israel and the United Arab Emirates as a clear example of shifting regional dynamics.

He said developments in the region had been “unpredictable even a year ago,” noting that Israel and the UAE have now reached a level where their security and defence forces are cooperating on protecting shared interests and regional stability.

Waltz added that the expanding security ties are a result of a “new phase” driven by the Abraham Accords, which in recent years have led several Arab states to normalise diplomatic and economic relations with Israel.

Signed in 2020, the Abraham Accords marked a major shift in Middle East diplomacy, with the UAE and Bahrain becoming the first Arab countries in years to establish formal relations with Israel. Morocco and Sudan later joined the process, further expanding regional engagement.

Analysts say security cooperation between Israel and Gulf states has been driven largely by shared concerns over regional threats, including armed groups and instability in the Red Sea region.
