Somalia denies reports of expelling UAE ambassador

MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia on Tuesday firmly denied reports circulating in local media and on social platforms claiming it had decided to expel the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dismissed the reports as “false and baseless,” expressing concern over what it described as the spread of misinformation that could undermine diplomatic relations.

“The Ministry is deeply concerned about the dissemination of fabricated news and unfounded allegations published by certain media outlets and social media platforms, claiming that a decision has been taken to expel the UAE Ambassador to Somalia,” the statement said.

The government stressed that no such decision had been made and urged journalists and social media users to adhere to professional standards, verify information, and rely on official sources before publishing sensitive diplomatic news.

Officials also warned that the circulation of inaccurate information could harm relations between Somalia and its international partners, particularly countries in the Arab world.

Relations between Somalia and the UAE have experienced periods of tension in recent years, but both sides have also engaged in efforts to restore cooperation in areas including security and development.

There was no immediate comment from the UAE embassy in Mogadishu.
