WASHINGTON — U.S. intelligence agencies have reportedly informed President Donald Trump that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to obstruct efforts to reach a formal peace agreement between the United States and Iran, according to a report published by The Washington Post.
The report states that intelligence assessments presented to Trump suggest Netanyahu has been pursuing measures aimed at weakening or derailing a potential agreement, particularly provisions that would prohibit military actions against Lebanon. According to the newspaper, concerns have been raised that actions taken by the Israeli government could jeopardize the implementation of any future deal.
The Washington Post further reported that Netanyahu’s alleged opposition to the agreement is linked to domestic political considerations, arguing that a comprehensive U.S.-Iran settlement could significantly alter the political landscape and potentially affect his long-term political future.
The report also indicated that tensions between Trump and Netanyahu are growing, with disagreements reportedly widening over diplomatic efforts toward Iran. According to the newspaper, the dispute could intensify further if Netanyahu continues to pursue policies viewed by Washington as undermining negotiations or threatening the prospects of a broader regional agreement.
Neither the White House nor the Israeli government immediately commented on the claims outlined in the report. The reported intelligence assessment comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and establishing a more durable framework for stability in the Middle East.
